Lesson:
Fifth Grade Fractions

Mrs. Mallory, a fifth grade teacher, granted me the opportunity to teach an hour block lesson in her classroom on fractions. The lesson was in a small group, teacher led format. For this lesson, I offered to co-teach with Kendall Messersmith, another Teach the World Intern in a fifth grade class. We had about six students per group, and a total of three groups. We had each group for twenty minutes. The first group's lesson was on practicing adding and subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators. The second group practiced multiplying and dividing fractions with like and unlike denominators. The last group practiced converting fractions to decimals and percents. I created a central theme for all three lessons: Pizza Fractions.

The videos and pictures below cover the final group on fraction conversions.
